Fishing Seasons

MAY - SEPTEMBER

Water temperature ranges from 23º - 26º Celsius / 73º - 79º Fahrenheit
During the winter months, anglers will experience line-burning action from schooling Wahoo and Sailfish that patrol the edges of the Astrolabe and Solo reefs, mid-sized Yellowfin Tuna that occupy the local reefs and large Walu and Spanish Mackerel that inhabit the waters around the islands.

OCTOBER – APRIL

Water temperature ranges from 26º - 30º Celsius / 79º - 86º Fahrenheit
During the warmer months, anglers can expect the strength and power of large Yellowfin Tuna as they congregate around the seamounts, schools of Mahi-Mahi feeding on flying fish and large Blue and Black Marlin in the deep waters around the Kadavu Islands.

YEAR ROUND

Sport fishing species such as Dogtooth Tuna and Giant Trevally can be targeted and found throughout the year. These fish are territorial, and we recommend practicing "catch and release" to sustain their populations.

DOCK TO DISH

To honour sustainably sourced seafood, guests who enjoy a fishing expedition and catch their own fish are invited to bring their haul ashore. Our chefs will expertly transform your catch into a delectable meal, highlighting its freshness and quality. Witness your freshly caught fish become a culinary masterpiece, enhanced with micro herbs and citrus sourced from our on-island farm. Embark on Kokomo’s exclusive reef fishing experience with a brief voyage aboard one of our three dedicated fishing vessels to the nearby coral reefs. Guests can engage in local reef fishing using state-of-the-art Shimano gear and tackle or opt for the traditional method of hand line fishing. Immerse yourself in the rich local history and Fijian fishing traditions as you learn from our knowledgeable guides, while you discover a variety of delicious reef species such as Coral Trout, Snapper, Cod, Sea Bream, and many more tasty reef species found in the local reefs around Kokomo.

Kokomo’s sportfishing adventures deliver high-octane thrills and hands-on action in some of the richest fishing grounds in the South Pacific. Whether casting poppers into the surf zone for Giant and Bluefin Trevally or chasing bait balls offshore for topwater Yellowfin, this is fishing that gets the heart racing. Jig over seamounts and reef edges for Dogtooth Tuna, Grouper, Coral Trout, or target oversized Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo, Sailfish and Mahi-Mahi in deeper waters. Gamefish such as Blue and Black Marlin and Short Bill Spearfish are also found in the deep trenches around the Kadavu island group, all within a short distance from Kokomo.

Beyond the reef and over the drop-off, guests can target Fiji’s prized table fish in depths of up to 400 meters using the latest in Shimano electric reel technology. It's a daunting, challenging adventure into unknown depths, where you might reel in Gold Band Snapper, Ruby Snapper, Bedford, Pakapaka, and other delicious deep-sea species. Described by guests and Kokomo’s fishing experts as a real lucky dip, you just never know what you might pull up from the deep dark depths. With the right gear and specialised techniques you’re in for a real treat!

SPEARFISHING

Whether you’re a beginner or the most experienced Bluewater hunter, we provide a wide range of spearfishing charters. Our trips are designed to provide the best possible chance of securing that fish of a lifetime, all while holding your breath. Learn about spearfishing equipment, freediving techniques and fish behaviour in this exhilarating underwater sport. Spearfishing charters will visit reefs and islands to the north of the Great Astrolabe Reef, where guests can target some of the most common reef and pelagic species in Fiji including Coral Trout, Green Jobfish, Dogtooth Tuna, Spanish Mackerel and Wahoo.

All boats are loaded with high quality Shimano, Penn and Diawa rods and reels, custom made lures of various brands and high-quality terminal tackle. We specialise in both light and heavy tackle (10-60kg), depending on the season, which give our anglers the best chance of taking home a record or two, along with an experience they will never forget.
