Together We Can

Each year, millions of people around the world come together in celebration of World Oceans Day. Aimed at raising awareness of the vital role the ocean plays in our lives, World Oceans Day encourages us to celebrate the beauty of the ocean and to preserve this essential resource for future generations. While this is not something we can achieve on our own, the action of every individual helps us to bring about a healthier ocean and a better future for all.

Together We Have

As Marine Biologist for Kokomo Private Island, I have been heavily involved with a vast range of initiatives introduced by the resort to preserve our local marine ecosystem. Since introducing our Coral Restoration Project, we have successfully grown 1,500 corals in our Coral Garden and transplanted 300 corals onto Walker Restoration Reef. This would not have been possible without the assistance of our guests, many of whom spent Christmas Day planting an underwater Christmas Tree Coral Garden.

Coral Restoration Project Launched in March 2018 and aimed at identifying heat resilient corals for transplantation Acoustic Manta Tagging Launched in 2019 to protect vulnerable Manta Rays in association with the Manta Trust. Mangrove Reforestation Launched in May 2019 as coastal protection for local villages and to assist with carbon sequestration
Seafood Dock to Dish Launched in March 2018 to promote the sustainable use of local fish and wild sea greens Beach No Take Fishing Zone Launched in August 2018, as the first step toward creating a Marine Protected Area. Coral Reef Seabin Project Launched in October 2018, Kokomo’s Seabin processes seawater to remove pollutants

Together We Will

I welcome anyone interested in sustainability and preservation to join me for a hands-on experience in our Coral Garden. Learn about coral selection, fragmentation, transplantation and reattachment.
